Enhancing Statistical Reliability by Resolving Duplicate Visitor Counting Issues

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) has installed five smart unmanned measuring devices using 3D artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve the accuracy of visitor statistics at Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach.

According to the county on the 27th, the operation of smart unmanned measuring devices at the beach is the first of its kind in Korea at Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach.

The smart unmanned measuring devices were installed near Myeongsa Prosperity Hall, in front of the management office, near the event plaza, at Sinji Ulmol Dock, and near Sora Raw Fish Restaurant.

By installing the smart unmanned measuring devices, the problem of double counting caused by vehicle measuring devices installed at three main entrances has been resolved, and by identifying visitors entering and exiting through decks around the beach, it is now possible to distinguish duplicate counts and produce accurate statistics.

Seo Gil-su, Director of Tourism, said, “With the installation of smart unmanned measuring devices, we will complement the shortcomings of the existing vehicle measuring device data and use accurate visitor entry statistics to systematically manage Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach.”

The beaches in Wando-gun opened on the 23rd and will operate until the 22nd of next month.

In particular, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and achieve zero water play safety accidents, Sinji Myeongsasimni Beach operates temperature check booths at nine main entrances to reduce crowding during entry and exit, implements a prior reservation system, registers 070 safety numbers, mandates mask-wearing within the beach area (including vaccinated individuals), and enforces administrative orders prohibiting food and alcohol consumption, thereby establishing and operating a strengthened quarantine system.
