[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Gyeonggi-do Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory announced on the 27th that "starting from July this year, in accordance with the heatwave preparedness livestock farm quarantine management plan, it will conduct disinfection and animal medical support activities in response to heatwave damage."

The laboratory will continuously support disinfection activities targeting livestock farms within the province and provide emergency medical support through disease surveillance.

Priority support will be given to farms affected by heatwave damage to minimize the scale of damage, and focused management will be carried out on vulnerable quarantine areas to prevent the recurrence of infectious diseases such as highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) and African swine fever (ASF), which occurred last year.

To resolve the issue of foul odors in livestock barns during the summer season, the laboratory will support the creation of a hygienic livestock environment by spraying the 'useful microbial agents' produced by the laboratory both inside and outside the barns.

Additionally, 'powdered lactic acid bacteria,' which can be added to feed and help boost the immunity of livestock weakened by heat, will be supplied as much as possible to farms in need.

Choi Kwon-rak, director of the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory, emphasized, "Each farm should pay attention to livestock management during the heatwave, and especially, enhancing livestock immunity using useful microorganisms is essential," adding, "If any livestock suspected of disease is found, please promptly request a veterinarian's examination or report it to the Animal Hygiene Testing Laboratory."
