Yeosu-si Operates Detour Road for 4 Months on a Section of Mipyeong Park

[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Sim Kyung-taek] Yeosu City in Jeollanam-do is conducting an underground passage construction to ensure the safe road crossing of visitors to Mipyeong Park ahead of the demolition of Yangji Overpass.

Accordingly, from the 2nd of next month, a section of the old Jeolla Line railway at Mipyeong Park will be closed, and a detour road will be operated for about four months.

According to the city, to prevent safety accidents during construction and to promote swift progress, the 400m section from the old Mipyeong Station to Naju Salt will be closed from August 2 to November 16.

During this period, citizens and tourists passing through this section must detour via nearby side roads.

Yeosu City is installing guide signs, banners, safety facilities, etc., and is intensively promoting the detour route through SNS and BIT (Bus Information Terminal) to minimize inconvenience.

A city official requested, "Since the detour road is used by vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians together, vehicles should slow down for safety, and park users should exercise special caution," adding, "We ask for citizens' understanding and cooperation during the construction period, even if it is a bit inconvenient."

Meanwhile, Yangji Overpass was installed in 1995 to facilitate smooth traffic flow due to Jeolla Line operations and to prevent traffic accidents at railroad crossings. With the removal of the railway, its function was lost, and many residents have continuously complained about environmental damage such as noise and exhaust caused by vehicles passing over the overpass, demanding its demolition.
