Pilot Project for Welfare Practice for Elderly in Rural Areas Receives Great Response

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Muan County, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) is receiving great responses from village members for the ‘Rural Elderly Welfare Practice Pilot Project,’ which is being promoted to create income activities and rural community culture by utilizing the skills and craftsmanship resources of rural elderly people.

According to the county on the 26th, with a project budget of 50 million KRW, they are providing suitable small jobs for rural elderly, creating rural business spaces specialized in agricultural production and simple processing, and supporting productive leisure activities for the elderly.

After a project contest and screening in the first half of the year, Nosongjeong Village in Mongtan-myeon was selected as the project target. Support was provided for processing equipment and the creation of a safe working environment so that village elders could manufacture and sell rice syrup, jocheong honey, and other products using agricultural products they directly cultivated. A village community leisure program, Pungmulnori, is planned to be held until next month.

Village chief Seo Chun-geun said, “I am grateful for creating a safe and convenient working environment for the elderly who used to climb dangerous stairs even in winter for small jobs,” and added, “I hope that through this project, welfare for village residents will improve and a communication space for mutual harmony will continue to be established.”

Governor Kim San stated, “Based on the income and satisfaction survey results of rural elderly participating in this year’s project, we plan to secure next year’s budget and expand the project.”
