Incorporating Yongsan Park Public Proposal "Development Plan to Be Finalized by the End of This Year"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 26th that the Yongsan Park Development Promotion Committee plans to review adopting the seven proposals from the Yongsan Park National Participation Group and reflecting them in the Yongsan Park development plan.

The Yongsan Park National Participation Group, formed in January this year, created a public proposal document containing opinions on the future direction of Yongsan Park over six months.

They requested that the park be made a space where socially vulnerable groups can use it safely and without inconvenience. They also emphasized that the spatial identity of Yongsan Park is a "park" and proposed that it be developed to balance ecological and historical preservation with the park's functions. Additionally, they suggested ideas to enjoy the park year-round, such as age-specific ecological education programs, forest camping, lake water play, and skating.

The committee plans to finalize the Yongsan Park development plan by the end of this year, reflecting the public proposal document and other inputs.

The committee stated, "To create a safe and convenient park, it is necessary to develop a smart park incorporating 4th industrial revolution technologies and introduce universal design to allow free movement for transportation-disadvantaged individuals." They added, "Through harmony with the National Museum of Korea, the Hangeul Museum, and others incorporated by last year's boundary expansion, we will develop the park as a space balancing preservation and utilization, where diverse cultural and artistic programs are held."

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Seoul City, and related agencies plan to continuously recruit 'Friends of Yongsan Park' through the Yongsan Park National Participation website starting in August. The Ministry will also recruit the second group of Yongsan Park young creators.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyung-wook said, "I thank the participation group for showing great interest and passion by attending deliberation discussions and experiential activities every weekend over the past six months." He added, "As the saying goes, if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together. We will successfully promote the Yongsan Park project, which will proceed with the public over a long term."
