President Moon's Approval Rating in the 40% Range for 3 Consecutive Weeks... Positive 44.7% vs Negative 52.2% [Realmeter]

Party Support Ratings, Both Deobureo Minjudang and Gungminuihim Decline... 35.1% vs 33.7%

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating has remained in the 40% range for three consecutive weeks.


On the 26th, Realmeter conducted a public opinion survey commissioned by YTN from the 19th to the 23rd, targeting 2,516 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (response rate 5.6%). The result showed that President Moon's approval rating for his state affairs management (positive evaluation) was 44.7%. Although it fell by 0.8 percentage points compared to the second week of July, it has stayed in the 40% range for three consecutive weeks.

The negative evaluation of "poorly managing state affairs" rose by 1.0 percentage point to 52.2%, while "don't know/no response" decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 3.2%.


The gap between positive and negative evaluations was 7.5 percentage points, which is outside the margin of error (±2.0 percentage points), but it has shown a single-digit gap for two consecutive weeks following last week's 5.7 percentage points.


By region, Seoul (40.7%) and Gyeonggi·Incheon (46.4%) each fell by 2.5 percentage points and 1.9 percentage points respectively compared to the previous survey, whereas Gwangju·Jeolla (67.3%) rose by 3.0 percentage points, showing the largest increase.


By age group, the approval rating dropped significantly by 6.1 percentage points among those aged 70 and over (27.6%), and also decreased by 1.1 percentage points and 1.0 percentage points among those in their 20s (38.9%) and 30s (50.6%) respectively. However, in the 40s age group, it was recorded at 61.8%, showing solid support with little change from the previous survey (62.0%).


Party support declined for both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party.


The Democratic Party decreased by 1.6 percentage points from last week to 35.1%, and the People Power Party fell by 1.2 percentage points to 33.7%. Other parties included the Open Democratic Party (6.7%), the People’s Party (6.7%), the Justice Party (3.4%), the Basic Income Party (0.6%), Transition Korea (0.6%), other parties (1.7%), and non-affiliated voters (11.6%).
