Gwanak-gu-Seoul National University Campus Town Resident 'Jalla Company' Attracts Investment for Product Manufacturing

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) announced that startups supported and nurtured by the Gwanak-gu-Seoul National University Campus Town have begun to show results, such as launching prototypes through investments from professional investors.

‘Jalla Company (CEO Choo Sung-hoon)’, selected at the Gwanak-gu-Seoul National University Campus Town resident company competition last September, secured investment from the early-stage startup specialized investor ‘Mashup Angels (Managing Partner Lee Taek-kyung)’ in the first half of this year and was finally selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups’ ‘Early Startup Package’ project.

Based on this, they opened and are currently operating the beta service of the AI cut editing solution for live broadcast editing, ‘Jalla (Zala)’, in July.

‘Jalla (Zala)’ is a solution used by streamers and video editors when editing video cuts, characterized by recommending entertaining scenes of broadcasts by comprehensively analyzing viewer reactions and various data.

Since AI recommends editing points in advance, not only is the video review time reduced, but users can also directly adjust the recommended editing points, allowing for faster and more convenient finalization of cut editing points.

A representative of Jalla Company stated, “Currently, Zala has secured an accuracy rate of over 95%, as the AI-recommended editing points match the cuts included in actual YouTube edited versions of League of Legends broadcasts,” adding, “We will advance the editing point recommendation engine and expand into subtitle and effect editing fields to develop a service that allows anyone to easily edit broadcast videos.”

Currently, 31 companies possessing innovative technologies such as AI, bio, and smart healthcare reside in the Gwanak-gu-Seoul National University Campus Town, dreaming of becoming unicorn companies with a corporate value of 1 trillion won. Visible results in investment, sales, and employment are emerging through the provision of startup spaces and various startup program supports for resident companies.

Meanwhile, the district is creating a regional innovation cluster centered on Nakseongdae’s Nakseong Venture Valley and Sillim Startup Valley in Daehak-dong. So far, 11 startup support facilities such as ‘Startup HERE-RO 2, 3, 4’, ‘Nakseong Venture Startup Centers (3 locations)’, and ‘Seoul Startup Center Gwanak’ have been established. By 2022, additional facilities including ‘Startup HERE-RO 1, 5’ and ‘Seoul National University Research Park (Building 943)’ will be added, expanding the total to 16 startup support facilities. Together with Gwanak S Valley, this will establish the area as an innovative startup city.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “With the Gwanak-Seoul National University Campus Town (comprehensive type) and Gwanak S Valley, which have shown tangible results from actual investment attraction to prototype production, we will continue to do our best to establish Gwanak-gu as Korea’s top venture valley through building startup infrastructure and promoting various corporate support policies.”
