[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The number of first-dose COVID-19 vaccine recipients in South Korea increased by approximately 27,000 on the 24th.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 25th, the number of new first-dose vaccinations the previous day was 27,041. By vaccine type, Pfizer accounted for 27,014 doses, and AstraZeneca (AZ) accounted for 27 doses.
The number of new first-dose vaccinations decreased compared to weekdays as medical institutions and local vaccination centers entrusted with vaccine administration were closed or operated for shorter hours over the weekend. From the 20th to the 24th, which were weekdays, the number of new first-dose vaccinations ranged around 140,000 to 150,000 per day.
As of midnight on the day, the cumulative number of first-dose vaccinations nationwide reached 16,891,553, representing 32.9% of the total population (51,349,116 as of December last year).
By vaccine type, the cumulative first-dose recipients were 10,404,145 for AstraZeneca, 5,294,416 for Pfizer, and 63,270 for Moderna. The cumulative number of Janssen vaccine recipients was 1,129,722. Since the Janssen vaccine requires only one dose, those vaccinated with Janssen are included in both first and second dose counts. The number of people who completed the second dose increased by 10,942 in one day.
By vaccine type, the second dose recipients were 10,162 for Pfizer, 723 for Moderna, and 57 for AstraZeneca.
Among Pfizer vaccine recipients, 349 people received both first and second doses with Pfizer, while 9,813 people received AstraZeneca for the first dose and Pfizer as a 'heterologous vaccination' for the second dose.
Thus, the total number of people who completed both doses reached 6,858,588, which corresponds to 13.4% of the population.
The cumulative number of completed vaccinations by vaccine type was 3,743,067 for Pfizer, 1,970,330 for AstraZeneca (including 881,02 heterologous vaccinations), 15,469 for Moderna, with the remainder being Janssen recipients.
For AstraZeneca, 85.3% of the target population (12,196,477 people) completed the first dose. The second dose completion rate was 16.2%.
For Pfizer, 80.5% of the total target population (6,577,554 people) completed the first dose, and 56.9% completed the second dose.
For Moderna, all but one of the total target population (63,271 people) completed the first dose. Additionally, 24.4% of the target population completed the second dose. For Janssen, all but 26 of the target population (1,129,748 people) were vaccinated.
Regarding vaccination status by target and institution, including nursing hospitals and facilities, hospital-level or higher medical institutions, vulnerable facilities, military personnel, and cases where vaccinations were administered by health centers or respective institutions, the first-dose vaccination rate was 92.7%, and the second-dose rate was 81.0%.
The first and second dose vaccination rates at delegated medical institutions, which vaccinate seniors aged 75 and older, essential travelers abroad, vaccination centers, caregivers for disabled and elderly, veterans, chronic kidney disease patients, seniors aged 60 to 74, reservists, and civil defense personnel, were 83.7% and 29.1%, respectively.
