Daegu City Holds Launch Ceremony for 'Water Industry Forum'... Operates 3 Divisions on Technology Development, Market, and Internationalization for 5 Months

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Dong-guk] Daegu City announced on the 25th that it will hold the '2021 Daegu Water Industry Forum Launch Ceremony' at 2 p.m. on the 26th at EXCO, with participation from industry, academia, research, civil society, and government.

The Water Industry Forum brings together experts from central and local governments with rich knowledge and experience in water-related fields to discuss water industry policy directions over about five months, divided into three subcommittees: ▲Technology Development, ▲Market, and ▲Internationalization.

Daegu City has attracted key water industry infrastructure such as the National Water Industry Cluster (completed in July 2019) and the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute (established in November 2019) to jointly develop and disseminate innovative water industry technologies, supporting research and development and commercialization.

The Daegu Water Industry Forum includes 10 representatives from the water-related academic community, such as Professor Emeritus Choi Seung-il, head of the Eco Smart Water Supply Project at Korea University, Yoon Joo-hwan, chairman of the Korea Water Industry Council (KWP), Min Kyung-seok, director of the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute, and Professor Park Jun-hong of Yonsei University. Additionally, eight water-specialized institutions including the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute and the Korea Environment Corporation, as well as nine water-related businesspeople including Gu Jeong-mo, head of Samsung Engineering Yeongnam Branch, participate.

Daegu City operates the Daegu Water Industry Forum with three subcommittees (Technology Development, Market, Internationalization) in the presence of Hong Ui-rak, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs.

The Technology Development subcommittee operates with a focus on technology development directions reflecting Daegu City's major issues, while the Market subcommittee promotes projects to establish Daegu as a leading city for market entry by strengthening the basic foundation of the water industry.

The Internationalization subcommittee develops core projects related to internationalization, including deriving new Daegu-style overseas expansion models, strengthening the stepping stone role for overseas market entry, and is expected to greatly contribute to the co-growth of technologies and products with companies residing in the National Water Industry Cluster through the development of Daegu's water industry.

Over the next five months, the Daegu Water Industry Forum will operate to set directions for advanced convergence application technologies, carbon-neutral technologies, new technology platforms for market entry, institutional improvements, and Daegu-style fleet-type nurturing strategies. Separate subcommittee meetings will be held, and a final performance report meeting is scheduled for the end of this year.

Hong Ui-rak, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu City, said, "Despite the difficult international conditions, together with the National Water Industry Cluster and the Korea Water Technology Certification Institute, we will spare no support to build networks with water experts to lead Korea's water industry and also to lead the global market."
