Jo Seongjae (Jeju City Hall) failed to advance to the semifinals despite breaking the 1-minute barrier in the men's 100m breaststroke swimming event. On the 24th, at the Tokyo Aquatic Center during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men's 100m breaststroke heats, he recorded a time of 59.99 seconds, placing 20th. Semifinal tickets are given to the top sixteen competitors.

Although he did not advance to the semifinals, Jo Seongjae showed considerable potential. In May, at the national swimming team selection competition, he recorded 59.65 seconds. He was the first Korean swimmer to break the 1-minute barrier in the men's 100m breaststroke. This time, he also touched the pad in under a minute, proving that his previous record was no coincidence.

Meanwhile, Ahn Sehyun (Ulsan City Hall) placed 23rd in the women's 100m butterfly heats with a time of 59.32 seconds. This was far from her Korean record of 57.07 seconds set in 2017. Lee Hojun (Daegu City Hall), who participated in the men's 400m freestyle heats, finished 26th with a time of 3 minutes 53.23 seconds.
