Men's sabre fencers Oh Sang-wook (Seongnam City Hall) and Kim Jeong-hwan (Korea Sports Promotion Foundation) continued their smooth progress toward Olympic medals.
World No. 1 Oh Sang-wook advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Ahmed Mohamed (Egypt) 15-9 in the round of 16 of the men's sabre individual event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, held on the 24th at Makuhari Messe Hall B in Chiba, Japan. Although he wavered briefly after conceding three consecutive points in the second period, he quickly regained composure and comfortably subdued his opponent. Kim Jeong-hwan defeated world No. 2 Eli Dershwitz (USA) 15-9. Despite being chased 9-8 in the second period, he secured victory by scoring five consecutive points.
