Submission for Nowon University Student Idea Contest Open for 3 Months Until October 15... Creating Nowon with My Own Hands, Recruiting University Student Ideas Across Various Fields Throughout the District Administration
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is holding a 2021 University Student Idea Contest to discover fresh ideas from university students and incorporate them into district administration.
The theme covers all aspects of Nowon-gu's district administration, and any idea that is feasible even if small and helps the local community and neighbors is welcome.
Eligibility includes university and graduate students (including those on leave) enrolled in universities within Nowon-gu or university students residing in Nowon-gu.
Applications can be submitted from July 19 to October 15 via the district office website under Communication Participation - Citizen Proposals, and postal or in-person submissions are also accepted. Applicants must submit both the application form and proposal, and those who pass the first screening will be asked to provide proof of enrollment and a copy of their student ID.
Submitted ideas will go through a first round of online evaluation by a citizen participation group, a second round by the proposal review working committee, and a third round by the proposal review committee, selecting 10 finalists. The final ranking will be decided through a fourth round PPT presentation competition.
Prizes include 2 million KRW for the grand prize, 1 million KRW for the gold prize, 500,000 KRW for the silver prize, 200,000 KRW each for two bronze prizes, and 100,000 KRW each for 30 encouragement prizes, along with certificates of commendation from the district mayor.
Outstanding proposals adopted in the contest will be actively reflected in major district projects, and the responsible departments will continuously monitor the implementation process.
Last year, the district selected 10 excellent proposals through the contest. Except for two that could not be pursued due to legal issues, eight ideas have either been implemented or are in detailed planning stages.
The elementary and middle school summer vacation experiential learning program "NowonN School," which will be held for two weeks starting August 2, is also a project adopted through the 2020 contest. A university student's idea to activate the local educational community by utilizing local educational facilities and a youth mentor group has become a reality, greatly helping reduce educational gaps for low-income children and the childcare burden on parents.
Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "The University Student Idea Contest is an opportunity to diagnose Nowon-gu's present and envision its future through the perspective of youth," adding, "I hope many participate with the hope that their small ideas can change the lives of the community and neighbors."
