[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] The Ministry of Justice carried out personnel changes for 42 prosecutors on the 23rd.

On the same day, the Ministry of Justice newly appointed 20 prosecutors who graduated from law school legal officer programs effective from the 1st of next month, and transferred 22 prosecutors (including dispatches to other agencies) effective from the 2nd of next month.

The Ministry of Justice stated, "After the regular personnel changes in the first half of the year, some general prosecutors who fulfilled the mandatory assignment period were transferred to invigorate the organization, while actively reflecting requests for retention to ensure continuity and stability of frontline office work."

It also said, "While comprehensively considering frontline office personnel demand, outgoing personnel, and leave/return status, we actively reflected the preferences of the personnel subject to the changes to allocate prosecutors in a balanced manner."

The Ministry explained the characteristics of this personnel change, saying, "We strictly adhered to the principle of exchange between the metropolitan area and provinces and the principle of dispersed allocation by regional jurisdiction of provincial offices, and avoided exceptions to personnel principles to enhance fairness and predictability of personnel changes."

It added, "We actively considered individual prosecutors' difficulties and wishes such as illness, childbirth, and childcare, and made efforts to reflect their preferred work locations as much as possible."

Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye said on the morning of the same day while heading to the Government Complex Gwacheon, in response to reporters' questions about the personnel changes, "The core of this personnel change is that we almost fully met the desired preferences of the individuals," adding, "In the case of female prosecutors, it is characteristic that we tried to reflect various wishes such as childcare issues as much as possible."

The Ministry of Justice stated, "With the conclusion of the second half of 2021 prosecution personnel changes, we will make every effort to ensure that the prosecution's core duties are carried out without disruption, and continue to do our best to realize coexistence justice that the public empathizes with."

Earlier, on the 21st, the Ministry of Justice held a prosecution personnel committee meeting at the Gwacheon Government Complex to discuss the principles and timing of personnel changes for prosecutors.

Since personnel changes involving transfers and new appointments for 531 prosecutors were carried out earlier this year, this second half personnel change was limited to a small scale.
