[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, personally went to a site violating COVID-19 quarantine rules and caught a nightlife establishment operating illegally.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that Governor Lee conducted a surprise inspection around 10 p.m. on the 22nd at a nightlife establishment located in Anyang City, together with enforcement officials, and caught seven people including female hostesses and customers.
The emergency inspection that day involved Governor Lee and about 40 enforcement officials. The crackdown was carried out by first checking for violations of the gathering ban order and providing guidance on cooperation for keeping the entrance door open, followed by an inspection inside the business premises.
When Governor Lee entered, there were two nightlife workers, two foreign female hostesses, and three customers drinking alcohol on site.
The provincial enforcement team notified the violation of the gathering ban order, completed administrative procedures such as preparing a confirmation report on the quarantine rule violations, and finished the inspection around 11:30 p.m. that night.
Firefighters conducting a joint crackdown on late-night businesses with Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, are forcibly opening the door of the establishment.
The province plans to file charges against the nightlife establishment and customers who violated quarantine rules such as illegal operation and the gathering ban order under the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act.
A provincial official stated, "This on-site inspection was conducted following reports that some nightlife establishments were locking their doors and operating illegally late at night despite the severe spread of COVID-19," and emphasized, "We will continue to strictly crack down on any violations of quarantine rules to protect public health."
