[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heeyoon] With the summer heat and the resurgence of COVID-19 leading to longer hours spent at home due to remote work, air conditioner sales are surging. Pasco, a home appliance specialist company, sold one window-type air conditioner every 21 seconds over three days starting from the 16th.

On the 21st, Pasco announced that it sold 12,000 window-type air conditioners from the 16th to the 18th. Demand surged across all online and offline distribution channels, including its own mall and home shopping, resulting in total sales of 9.1 billion KRW.

As orders piled up to the point that popular models were out of stock, Pasco operated its entire production line, increasing daily output by more than 30% from about 1,500 units to 2,000 units. The company explained that it expanded its production infrastructure again after increasing production capacity by 50% compared to the previous year through factory expansion last year.

Pasco analyzed that the recent heatwave led consumers to focus on compact and easy-to-install window-type air conditioners, which boosted sales. They also added that the increased time children spend at home due to COVID-19 during school vacations contributed to the rise in demand.

Kim Sangwoo, Executive Director of Pasco’s B2C Business Division, said, "Despite the overheated competition in the window-type air conditioner market, orders surged thanks to consumer trust in the fact that our product is the only one entirely produced domestically." He added, "We expect to surpass last year’s sales volume by next week and plan to put all efforts into additional product manufacturing."

Meanwhile, Pasco’s 'Pasco Window-Type Air Conditioner 3,' launched this year, adopts a first-grade LG dual inverter compressor, reducing power consumption by 10% compared to previous models. The actual noise level is also maintained at 37.1 dB in sleep mode thanks to the dual inverter and BLDC motor, making it one of the quietest in Korea. The company is implementing the '72-Hour AS Visit Guarantee System' for the first time this year, which replaces the product with a new one if on-site service cannot be provided within 72 hours of an after-sales service request.
