[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Jeong Cheong-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol, who paid respects at the Gwangju 5·18 Democratic Cemetery on Constitution Day, saying, "Since you are going to resign midway anyway, why do you keep wandering around?"
On the 18th, Jeong said on his Facebook, "It must be hard for him, but it is also hard for those watching," expressing his opinion. He pointed out, "A squeezing syringe saves lives, but squeezing tearful eyes makes people laugh," and added, "Anger makes the heartbeat race when one is truly angry, but awkward, misplaced anger only makes the muscles around the mouth twitch."
He continued, "I get angry at politicians who visit Gwangju only during election times to put on a show," and said, "Gwangju holds tremendous anger toward politicians who have been far from the tears of Gwangju, trying to exploit Gwangju's sorrow for votes." He also stated, "Those who made Gwangju shed tears should not spit on the spirit of the Gwangju 5·18."
Furthermore, Jeong said, "Don't touch the tombstones pretending to be sad. It's even more awkward," and added, "If you are going anyway, quietly look around with a solemn heart and come back without saying anything. That would be better."

Earlier, former Prosecutor General Yoon visited Gwangju the day before and paid respects at the 5·18 Democratic Cemetery. Having worked at the Gwangju District Prosecutor's Office in 2003, Yoon shared his thoughts, saying, "I thought a lot must have changed after 20 years and that the grievances of the local people would have been eased, but when I entered the cemetery, I myself felt choked up." He also became teary-eyed while mentioning the "grudge (Han)" of Gwangju during a meeting with reporters.
