The 7,000 TEU container ship 'HMM Jakarta' is loading cargo from domestic export companies at Busan Port New Port HPNT.
[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] HMM announced on the 18th that it has deployed an additional temporary vessel bound for the Americas to support smooth exports by domestic companies.
The 7,000 TEU container ship HMM Jakarta, which departed from Busan New Port HPNT (HMM Busan New Port Terminal), loaded with cargo from domestic export companies, left Busan on the 17th and is scheduled to arrive at Long Beach and Tacoma in the United States on the 28th of this month and the 11th of next month, respectively.
HMM Jakarta carried a total of 6,065 TEU of cargo, with more than 60% of the domestic volume loaded by small and medium-sized shippers.
This voyage marked the first shipment of agricultural and fishery export products since the signing of a business agreement with the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) on the 13th to support export agricultural and fishery product maritime transportation.
As part of the "Additional Support Measures for Export and Import Logistics" announced by the government on the 7th of last month, HMM increased the frequency of temporary vessels bound for the Americas from at least twice a month to four times a month starting this month. This month alone, a total of seven temporary vessels have been deployed to the U.S. West Coast (Long Beach, Tacoma, Vancouver, LA, etc.), the U.S. East Coast (New York, Savannah, etc.), and Russia (Vostochny).
In addition to services bound for the Americas, HMM plans to actively support cargo transportation for domestic export and import companies in sections with insufficient capacity, such as Europe.
Currently, it is difficult to secure additional container ships in the ship charter market, so HMM is deploying multipurpose vessels and ships operating on other routes as temporary vessels.
An HMM official stated, "As part of win-win cooperation with domestic shippers, we will continue to support smooth exports by domestic companies," adding, "As a leading national shipping company, we will take responsibility and make every effort to ensure that export companies' cargo is transported safely and without disruption."
Meanwhile, through the business agreement with the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), HMM is prioritizing the provision of 265 TEU of dedicated space (66 TEU per week, refrigerated and frozen containers) for agricultural and fishery products on temporary vessels operating on the Americas route.
