[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] BGF Welfare Foundation announced on the 18th that it will support meals for vulnerable children at risk of food insecurity during the school vacation period.

This initiative was planned to help students who have difficulty securing meals due to the suspension of school meals during the vacation period. In accordance with strengthened quarantine guidelines amid the spread of COVID-19, the meals are provided as convenient ready-to-eat meals so that children can eat safely at home.

The support targets about 70 children from low-income families, single-parent families, and grandparent-headed households at risk of food insecurity, selected from 34 education welfare hub elementary schools under the Gangseo Yangcheon and Dongjak Gwanak Education Support Offices. They will be provided with 1,000 meals consisting of 12 different types of cup meals, including rice bowls and soup rice dishes.

To this end, BGF Welfare Foundation delivered 700 meals to the Gangseo Yangcheon Education Support Office on the 7th and supported 300 meals to the Dongjak Gwanak Education Support Office. The support items are distributed to the children through education welfare experts at each school, who also visit the children's residences to check their health status and safety during delivery.

Along with support for children at risk of food insecurity during vacations, BGF Welfare Foundation's "Warm Meal Delivered Home" program continues to operate. This program provides essential nutritious meals for growing children every weekend directly to their homes using Hello Nature's early morning delivery system, targeting children who do not receive government support for various reasons. Through this program, a total of 3,200 warm meals were provided to children last year. This year, the scope will be expanded to include siblings, with a total of 5,000 meals planned for delivery.

Yang Kyung-hee, Director of BGF Welfare Foundation, said, "Providing meals for children at risk of food insecurity is not just about solving their immediate hunger but also about showing that warm compassion still exists in our society." She added, "The foundation will continue its efforts to provide more effective support to children in welfare blind spots."
