[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Community Chest of Korea (President Cho Heung-sik) has provided support worth 1 billion KRW to the heavy rain damage areas in Jeonnam.


On the 16th, according to the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, an emergency support delivery ceremony for the heavy rain damage in Jeonnam was held with the attendance of Kim Young-rok, Honorary Chairman of the Jeonnam Community Chest and Governor of Jeonnam, Roh Dong-il, Chairman of Jeonnam Community Chest, and Kim Sang-gyun, Secretary General of the Community Chest of Korea.


From the 5th to the 8th, record-breaking heavy rain caused damage across the country, and especially in Jeonnam, sudden heavy rain resulted in casualties and severe property damage including houses and crops.


Considering the increased difficulties faced by vulnerable neighbors due to the recent resurgence of COVID-19 and quarantine measures, the Community Chest of Korea decided to provide emergency support worth 1 billion KRW to the heavy rain damage areas in Jeonnam.


The support will help with emergency relief for vulnerable groups in the damaged areas of Jeonnam and assist in recovery efforts for the local community and residents. It will also provide daily necessities as part of the ongoing COVID-19 neighbor-helping campaign, the ‘Korea Social Vaccine’ sharing campaign.


Based on organic cooperation with Jeonnam Province and local governments, the support will be delivered accurately and promptly to the affected residents.


Meanwhile, since the 15th of last month, the Community Chest of Korea has been conducting the ‘Korea Social Vaccine Sharing Campaign’ to help disaster-vulnerable groups struggling due to COVID-19.

The campaign is being carried out simultaneously by the Community Chest headquarters and 17 city and provincial chapters nationwide for 47 days from the 15th of last month until the 31st of this month, with the current fundraising amount totaling 35.41 billion KRW.


The campaign has seen participation from corporate donations including Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co., Ltd._Hanbit Nuclear Power Headquarters and Cheonga Holdings Co., Ltd. in Jeonnam, as well as public enterprises and individual donors from across the country.
