[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] Former Channel A reporter Dongjae Lee, who was tried on charges of attempted coercion related to the so-called 'media-prosecutor collusion' suspicion, was acquitted in the first trial.
On the 16th, Judge Hong Changwoo of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 1 acquitted former reporter Lee, who was tried on charges of attempted coercion. Junior reporter Baek, who was also tried together, was likewise acquitted.
Former reporter Lee was tried on charges of attempting to coerce the former CEO of Value Invest Korea, Cheol Lee, by citing his friendship with a current chief prosecutor to force a tip-off about alleged corruption involving Yushimin, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, but the attempt failed.
Earlier, the prosecution demanded a sentence of 1 year and 6 months imprisonment for former reporter Lee at the sentencing hearing in May.
