Yeonggwang-gun Urges Pest Control for Plant Bugs and Other Pests

Yeonggwang-gun Urges Pest Control for Plant Bugs and Other Pests

[Yeonggwang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jeonseong] Jeollanam-do Yeonggwang-gun (Governor Kim Junsung) announced on the 16th that it conducted an investigation on the occurrence of pests such as rice planthoppers in the area and urged farmers to control the rice stink bugs, planthoppers, and rice sheath blight.

The Agricultural Technology Center recently conducted a pest occurrence survey in the paddy fields around Ugok-ri, Bulgap-myeon, and Yaksu-ri, Baeksu-eup. Although no rice planthoppers were detected, white-backed planthoppers, rice stink bugs, and rice blast disease were found causing damage to the rice.

Considering that the white-backed planthoppers have flown in on the wind from China, the county expects the density of pests to increase from late this month, so the first round of pest control should be carried out from the 19th of this month to the 10th of next month.

Additionally, the rice stink bug, which has been increasing annually, sucks the sap from rice stems causing damage, and in severe cases, can completely kill the rice stems, so it must also be controlled together.

An official from the Agricultural Technology Center said, “We ask farmers to carry out the first pest control from mid this month to early next month,” and added, “For the first cropping (based on the transplanting on May 30), please apply NK fertilizer (18-0-16) as ear fertilizer at 10 to 11 kg per 300 pyeong after the 20th.”
