[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] As online orders surge again due to the COVID-19 resurgence, Coupang has raised the per-delivery fee for 'Coupang Flex' to a maximum of 3,000 won. Coupang Flex is a part-time job where anyone can deliver using their own vehicle at their preferred time.
On the 16th, Coupang announced a temporary increase of 20-25% in the per-delivery fee for Coupang Flex. In some areas, the payment per delivery can be up to 3,000 won.
The reason Coupang raised the Flex fee is to meet the rapidly increasing order demand. With the announcement of the Level 4 social distancing guidelines in the metropolitan area, orders for daily necessities on Coupang have increased due to expanded remote work and reduced outdoor activities.
Coupang expects that this fee increase will encourage more ordinary people to participate in Coupang Flex deliveries. It is also anticipated to help self-employed individuals who are struggling due to shortened business hours.
A Coupang representative said, "Despite the increased cost burden, we decided to raise the Flex delivery fee to keep our promises to customers and to prevent the spread of infectious diseases," adding, "We hope this will provide some help to the people who are facing many difficulties due to COVID-19."
