Collecting and Recycling Used Clothes Across the U.S. to Protect the Environment
Donating $5 to Charity for Each Donation Kit Bag or Box with Donation Label
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Electronics announced on the 16th that it is conducting a used clothing recycling campaign in the United States in partnership with ThreadUp, the world's largest used clothing distribution company.
The campaign is conducted in a way that customers living in the United States donate clothes they rarely wear or accessories they do not use, thereby helping charitable organizations. This is part of LG Electronics' "Second Life" campaign, launched in April, aimed at giving a second life to used clothing and contributing to environmental protection.
Customers who wish to donate can order donation kits or download and print donation labels through the Second Life campaign website and the ThreadUp website. Then, they can use the bag included in the kit to donate used clothing. Customers who print donation labels can put used clothing in a box and attach the label to the outside of the box. The bags and boxes for donation are shipped free of charge to ThreadUp.
LG Electronics and ThreadUp will donate $5 to charitable organizations for each bag and box donated by customers. Customers can choose one of the charitable organizations supported by ThreadUp to donate to. Additionally, LG Electronics will wash the donated used clothing using washing machines, dryers, and stylers with steam functions, and ThreadUp will distribute and sell them. Clothing that is difficult to sell will be donated to charitable organizations along with donation funds by ThreadUp. This is the first time ThreadUp has conducted a used clothing recycling campaign with a company outside the clothing industry.
LG Electronics expects that the used clothing recycling campaign will not only help reduce clothing waste and protect the environment but also benefit local communities by donating clothes to organizations in need.
