[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Yoon Seok-yeol, a leading opposition presidential candidate and former Prosecutor General, on the 15th directly refuted the joint inspection results by the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, which confirmed inappropriate practices during the investigation of former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook.

In a post on his Facebook on the same day, Yoon stated, "Han Myeong-sook did not receive illegal political funds, and if the Supreme Court's guilty verdict is so unfair, she can apply for a retrial. All citizens of the Republic of Korea do so."

He continued, "Is it normal to recklessly destroy the judicial system like this just for one person, Han Myeong-sook?" and "The resulting confusion will ultimately harm the people."

He argued, "The Supreme Court also saw no problems in the investigation process and confirmed the guilty verdict on illegal political fund acceptance through a full bench," adding, "No illegality was revealed during the forced inspection led by the current administration."

He further criticized, "When nothing else works, they continue 'saving Han Myeong-sook' with noisy but hollow announcements," and "They are so shameless as to mistakenly believe the public will be deceived again."

Yoon also said, "The current administration consistently acts with an attitude of 'Our power is stronger, so we will ignore the Supreme Court's ruling and only save our side; what can you do about it?'" and "A privileged class existing above the law is being born in Korea right now." He added, "This is why we must unite to stop the extension of this administration and overwhelmingly replace the government."

Earlier, on the 14th, the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Prosecutors' Office announced that during the investigation of former Prime Minister Han's case, multiple inappropriate practices were confirmed, such as summoning four inmates who gave unfavorable testimony to Han more than 100 times to rehearse their statements.
