[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Chuncheon City is finally starting the construction of the 'Chuncheon Food Complex Cultural Space,' a project worth 10 billion KRW.

The 'Chuncheon Food Complex Cultural Space' project had been delayed due to the discovery of 55 Bronze Age relics and 177 Iron Age artifacts at the site around 154-7 Geunhwa-dong, where the complex is to be built.

According to Chuncheon City, a groundbreaking ceremony for the 'Chuncheon Food Complex Cultural Space' will be held on the 16th in Geunhwa-dong. The city aims to complete the project by June next year.

The food complex cultural space will be constructed on a 9,815㎡ site in Geunhwa-dong with a total investment of 10 billion KRW, including 4 billion KRW in national funds.

This is one of the key facilities designed to systematically develop food-related projects and establish a system for consuming local agricultural products within the region.

The complex cultural space will house a Food Research Support Center, an Operations Support Center, a Local Food Market, a cultural space, and a Traditional Liquor Research Institute.

The Food Research Support Center will consist of youth startup dining stores, shared kitchens, and a food studio.

The Local Food Market will enable young entrepreneurs to collaborate with local farms to sell regional agricultural products to citizens and tourists.

The cultural space will host small-scale regular performances and include an outdoor cultural area and an outdoor caf?.

The Traditional Liquor Research Institute will feature a liquor experience center and a traditional liquor sales area, while the citizen cultural space will include a kitchen zone, garden zone, party zone, lake zone, and theme zone.

Until now, the city has proceeded with administrative procedures including cultural heritage investigations through public architect consultations and resident briefings to promote the project, leading to the groundbreaking.

The groundbreaking ceremony will proceed in the order of a pre-ceremony cultural performance, viewing of the food vision video, project progress report, and groundbreaking performance.

Yonghae Jung, Director of the Safe Agricultural and Food Division, said, "A comfortable and diverse space where families and couples can enjoy Chuncheon's food and liquor will be born," adding, "Please look forward to a new landmark in Chuncheon, the lakeside city where safe food can be enjoyed."
