[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Global online video service (OTT) company Netflix is expanding its business into video games.
According to Bloomberg on the 14th (local time), Netflix has hired Mike Verdu, who previously worked at Electronic Arts (EA) and Facebook, as Vice President of Game Development to add video games to its service.
Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that Netflix plans to add video games to its service lineup within next year and will offer them for free for at least a certain period.
It also added that Netflix has already started recruiting employees related to game development and will form a dedicated video game team within a few months.
While Walt Disney, WarnerMedia, and Amazon, who are fiercely competing in the OTT market, are trying to add live sports content, they have not yet ventured into video games.
