[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] KAIST announced on the 14th that it signed an online memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pyeongtaek City and Samsung Electronics to promote "semiconductor workforce development and industry-academia cooperation."


According to the agreement, KAIST will establish and operate the "KAIST-Samsung Electronics Semiconductor Contract Department (tentative name)" at its Daejeon main campus to train semiconductor technical experts, and will set up the "KAIST Semiconductor Research Center (tentative name)" on the university campus site within Pyeongtaek Brain City, linking the research programs of the contract department.


Pyeongtaek City will provide a 460,000㎡ site and cooperate in infrastructure development, while Samsung Electronics will support the operation of the contract department to ensure practical, field-oriented education at the university is effectively conducted.


Additionally, based on the advanced technology research achievements of the research center, KAIST plans to strengthen cooperation with the local community through ▲ creation of a startup town ▲ creation of quality jobs through software education ▲ establishment of an open space for technology and cultural convergence for citizens.


The signing ceremony was conducted via an online video conference program, with KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung, Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jang-seon, and Samsung Electronics President Park Hak-gyu signing the agreement.


KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung emphasized, "Taking this agreement as an opportunity, KAIST will devote itself to nurturing core personnel who will lead our country to become the world's top semiconductor powerhouse."
