[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT announced on the 14th that it showcased 5G-based services such as 5G base station equipment, artificial intelligence (AI) serving robots, companion robots, and virtual reality (VR)·augmented reality (AR) glasses at the opening ceremony of the ‘5G Testbed’ held on the afternoon of the 13th at the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute in Geum-o Technovalley, Gumi-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do.


The ‘5G Testbed’ of the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute is a place where small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can test products they developed on a 5G pilot network to support the 5G convergence industry. KT plans to promote test certification cooperation for 5G products and various services developed by SMEs in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region at the ‘5G Testbed.’


The opening ceremony was attended by about 40 ICT industry-academia-research experts, including Kim Young-sik, member of the National Assembly from Gumi-si, Cho Kyung-sik, 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, Ha Dae-sung, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do for Economic Affairs, Jang Se-yong, Mayor of Gumi, and Ahn Chang-yong, Head of KT Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters. Attendees showed great interest in the scene where the AI serving robot demonstrated by KT delivered beverages and experienced VR sports, followed by a Q&A session on related technologies.


Ahn Chang-yong, Head of KT Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional Headquarters, said, “We are pleased to have a space where the performance of various 5G-based terminals developed by local SMEs can be tested,” and added, “We will promote technological cooperation so that the Gumi Electronics and Information Technology Institute and local companies can discover excellent 5G products and services, taking the opening of the Gumi 5G Testbed as an opportunity.”
