Lee Jae-myung Sheds Tears at the Scene of Seoul National University Cleaning Worker’s Death: "I Thought of My Deceased Younger Sister" Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung is shedding tears as he visits the site where cleaning worker Lee passed away at Seoul National University on the 11th.

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, took time amid the severe situation of splitting 24 hours between the spread of COVID-19 and the Democratic Party presidential primary to visit the site where cleaning worker Lee, employed at Seoul National University, passed away, offering condolences to the bereaved family and shedding tears.

On the 12th, Governor Lee wrote on Facebook, "Upon seeing the article that the cleaning worker Lee at the Seoul National University dormitory passed away, I thought of my younger sister," recalling, "She worked as a cleaning worker on site until the day she passed away, saying she would not rely on her older brother. Even on the day she collapsed, she was out working early in the morning."

He continued, "I wonder what I have done to owe so many people to come this far. I want to say thank you a hundred times, but now I cannot even do that," expressing his sorrow.

He then explained the reason for his visit, saying, "(On the afternoon of the 11th) I went to the site related to the death of the Seoul National University cleaning worker," and "I wanted to comfort the bereaved family who lost their loved one immediately."

Furthermore, he stated, "The truth may lie somewhere between the claims of both sides," and "Right now, I believe the priority is to comfort the deeply grieving family and thoroughly investigate the facts to ensure clear measures are taken."

In addition, he conveyed, "Gyeonggi Province is especially committed to improving the lives of cleaning workers," and "We have resolved unpaid wages for apartment security and cleaning workers in the province and directly improved rest facilities in the private sector."

He also added, "Starting this year, we will promote the installation of rest facilities in industrial complexes and social welfare facilities," and "We plan to support the formation of an 'Apartment Security Workers Human Rights Protection Monitoring Team' as well."

Finally, Governor Lee promised, "I will always remember where I must go," and "It is something my body remembers, and I will surely achieve a world where the lives of all working sovereign citizens are not sorrowful."
