Special Advisor Yang Hyang-ja Accused of Sexual Harassment Also Faces Charges of Violating the 'Political Funds Act'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The former special aide to Representative Yang Hyang-ja, who is accused of sexually harassing a female employee at Yang’s Gwangju regional office, is also suspected of embezzling political funds, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

According to the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency on the 12th, A, a distant cousin of Representative Yang, has been booked and is under investigation for violating the Political Funds Act. B, a female secretary at Yang’s office, has also been booked.

The police are reportedly investigating on the grounds that they embezzled tens of millions of won from Representative Yang’s political funds after last year’s general election.

The Political Funds Act stipulates that "political funds must be spent only on expenses necessary for political activities."

The police are verifying whether Representative Yang’s political funds were spent appropriately according to their intended purpose.

Meanwhile, Representative Yang directly filed a complaint with the police and requested an investigation after allegations surfaced on the 24th of last month that A had repeatedly sexually harassed a female employee at the regional office. The police have applied for a pre-arrest warrant for A, and the warrant hearing is scheduled for the 13th.
