Government Announces Contest for Metaverse Content Featuring Our Culture

Business Commercialization and Consulting Support for Selected Award Winners

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Culture Information Service announced on the 12th that they will discover content and ideas that allow people around the world to experience Korean culture in the "extended virtual world (metaverse)." This is the 1st Korean Culture Experience Metaverse Content Contest. They are looking for metaverse content prototypes and ideas that promote and allow people to experience Korean culture, and will support commercialization and consulting for some of the winning entries.

The contest is open to citizens with Korean nationality. Participation is open until September 17. Applicants must submit an application form, a freely formatted plan, prototypes, and other supplementary materials on the contest website. After evaluation, ten final winners will be selected and awarded certificates including the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award and a total prize money of 12 million KRW.

The Ministry expects the metaverse to be utilized across culture and leisure sectors including arts and culture, popular culture, games, content, sports, tourism, and religious activities. They plan to foster related industries and promote the expansion of new types of jobs.
