[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Go Minja, head of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Fire Safety Headquarters, began her first field duties in earnest instead of holding an inauguration ceremony.
The Gwangju Metropolitan City Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 12th that the new head, Go, visited the warehouse fire site in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, and areas at risk of water-related accidents to inspect disaster response situations.
Regarding the warehouse fire (Response Level 1) at a distribution company in Usan-dong, Gwangsan-gu, which occurred that morning, Head Go inspected the fire site, received reports on the damage and response process, and encouraged the on-site staff who worked hard to extinguish the fire.
The Usan-dong fire was quickly responded to with Response Level 1 issued within 11 minutes of the report, and the flames were extinguished in about two hours without any casualties. At the scene, Head Go instructed the relevant departments to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire.
She then visited Pungyeongjeongcheon (Suwan-dong, Gwangsan-gu), an area with a high risk of water-related accidents, to check pre-inspection items and urged the strengthening of emergency rescue readiness to prevent casualties from water accidents.
Go, head of the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, is the nation’s first female fire chief. She entered public service in 1984 through the fire service recruitment exam and has served as the head of the Eastern Fire Station of Jeju Fire Headquarters, director of the Protection and Rescue Division of Jeju Fire Headquarters, and director of the Fire Analysis System Division at the National Fire Agency. She is known as an expert in operating on-site response systems.
Head Go said, “Recently, large-scale accidents have frequently occurred nationwide, which may cause anxiety among Gwangju citizens about safety. We will do our best in the fire service’s fundamental role to wisely overcome these crises.”
