[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Amid ongoing solo protests by civic groups in Jinju City opposing the dismantling of LH, Shim Myung-hwan, chairman of the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements Jinju City Council in Gyeongnam, held a solo relay protest in front of the National Assembly on the 12th, appealing for a "proper reform that coexists with the local community, not the dismantling of LH."
On this day, Shim Myung-hwan, along with Vice Chairmen Lee Seok-gyun and Han Young-soon and Secretary General Oh Jeong-nam, participated in the solo relay protest in Seoul promoted by the Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City Protection Civic Movement Headquarters, continuing the relay solo protest.
Chairman Shim stated, “The reform plan to hastily dismantle LH, which is the gift to the long-neglected western Gyeongnam region and the core of Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City, without any consultation with the local community, not only shakes the foundation of the Innovation City but also destroys regional balanced development and tramples on the aspirations of local residents. We will continue to fight until a reasonable reform plan is reached after sufficient consultation and review with the local community,” expressing his determination.
Meanwhile, the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements Jinju City Council held a press conference at the Jinju City Hall briefing room on June 2nd, where they issued a statement opposing the LH separation reform plan that sacrifices the entire local population.
