[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, announced on the 12th that it will provide 100,000 KRW per month in living expenses to the bereaved families of victims who unjustly lost their lives at the hands of the South Korean military during the Korean War.

If there are two or more victims, 200,000 KRW will be paid monthly.

This living expense support follows the enactment of the "Ordinance on Living Expense Support for Bereaved Families of Victims of the Sancheong-Hamyang Incident" in July last year by Sancheong-gun.

After conducting fact-finding investigations earlier this year, the county began accepting applications from bereaved families in May and is providing living expense support to 30 bereaved families.

The support recipients are selected based on the "Special Measures Act on the Restoration of Honor for Persons Related to the Geochang Incident, etc."

Among registered bereaved families, those who have been registered residents of Sancheong-gun for at least six months prior to the application date and are actual residents limited to spouses, parents, children, siblings, and grandchildren are eligible.

Eligibility is lost if the bereaved family member dies, emigrates abroad, transfers resident registration outside the jurisdiction, or resides outside Sancheong-gun.

A county official stated, "This project was initiated to help stabilize the lives of the bereaved families of the Sancheong-Hamyang Incident victims," and added, "We ask that those eligible continue to apply through the local eup/myeon offices."

Meanwhile, the "Sancheong-Hamyang Incident" is a civilian casualty incident that occurred on February 7, 1951, during the Korean War, when the South Korean military conducted anti-communist guerrilla operations, similar to the Jeju 4.3 Incident and the Geochang Incident.
