[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Ando-geol, Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance, announced on the 12th that regarding the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' major project, the 'Fisheries New Deal 300 Project,' "a strict performance evaluation will be conducted to achieve noticeable results."
Vice Minister Ahn made these remarks at 10 a.m. on the same day during a budget consultation meeting for the agriculture, forestry, and marine sectors held at the National Sejong Arboretum. He evaluated that the Moon Jae-in administration contributed to increasing the income of farmers and fishermen. He assessed that key projects led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, such as the introduction of the public interest direct payment system in the agriculture and fisheries sectors with an investment of 2.4 trillion won this year, have yielded results. The average income of farming households last year was 45,029,000 won, an increase of 17.8% from 38,239,000 won in 2017. He also mentioned achievements in new workforce inflow and the transition to innovative industries.
Next year, the budget will be focused on ▲carbon neutrality hubs in rural and fishing villages ▲digital transformation of agriculture and fisheries ▲improvement of living infrastructure such as rural regeneration New Deal ▲strengthening the safety and inclusiveness of agricultural and fishery management. In particular, efforts will be made to achieve results in the Fisheries New Deal 300 project and improve infrastructure such as rural spatial restructuring and vacant house renovation.
Vice Minister Ahn stated, "Regarding projects related to the Fisheries New Deal 300, a strict performance evaluation will be conducted to decide on additional budget investments and their direction."
He also said that the budget will be appropriately invested in policies related to ▲expanding the supply of regional renewable energy ▲promoting low-carbon green ships ▲digital transformation of agriculture and fisheries ▲enhancing food self-sufficiency.
