[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] T map Mobility is joining forces with Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to expand the electric vehicle (EV) charging ecosystem.

On the 12th, T map Mobility announced that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for an "EV Charging Cooperation Project" with KEPCO at its headquarters in Centropolis, Gongpyeong-dong, Seoul.

Through this agreement, the two companies will jointly carry out projects to expand EV charging services. From T map Mobility’s perspective, it can leverage KEPCO’s ChargeLink, the largest domestic charging station infrastructure, while KEPCO can utilize the T map platform, which holds the number one market share in domestic navigation, to maximize convenience for EV drivers in Korea.

ChargeLink is an open roaming platform first developed by KEPCO in Korea. It enables payment interoperability between charging stations of different operators through roaming mediation among charging service providers. The two companies plan to connect these two platforms to collaborate not only on EV charging but also in various new mobility service areas.

Specifically, they will actively cooperate in areas including ▲ development of integrated services for charging station search, reservation, and payment through T map navigation and KEPCO ChargeLink linkage ▲ development of integrated EV charging and parking discount and easy payment services linked with T map parking ▲ B2B business for shared charging infrastructure ▲ optimal charging station location analysis based on mobility data ▲ EV flexibility resource projects ▲ and charging infrastructure construction to fulfill K-EV100 commitments.

The T map service specialized for EVs will be available starting in the second half of this year. Features such as optimal charging route search, real-time charging station status inquiry, charging station reviews and feedback, waiting time prediction, easy payment for charging, and subscription-based EV membership will be sequentially updated.

Jongho Lee, CEO of T map Mobility, said, “The EV charging business is an area where mobility and energy intersect, and close cooperation with KEPCO is essential to create the most convenient and sustainable charging service. Going forward, collaboration between the two companies will play a key role in establishing a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing both mobility and energy.”
