Gangdong-gu and Korea National Sport University Collaborate to Create 'Sports Theme Street' in Meokja Alley Area

- First project after agreement: 'Sports Theme Street Development' to transform Meokja Alley commercial area (Yangjae-daero 89ga-gil vicinity) into a unique sports content street

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu District Office (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) signed a business agreement with Korea National Sport University (President Ahn Yong-gyu) on July 9 to promote regional coexistence and the development of sports culture.

Through this agreement, both organizations established a mutual cooperation system including ▲ fostering related business fields and creating a vibrant university district based on their resources and expertise ▲ presenting a leading model for community development through public-private-academic governance ▲ exchanges and cooperation such as joint participation, education, and consultation ▲ research and technical support in sports culture.

The first project following this agreement, the "Gangdong-gu Sports Theme Street Development Project," aims to introduce sports-related content to the dining alley commercial area closest to Korea National Sport University (around Yangjaedaero 89ga-gil), creating a distinctive alley culture and revitalizing the local commercial district.

Through this project, the district plans to transform the dining alley commercial area into a street where residents can experience a broad range of sports culture in daily life, with landscape improvements that meet local residents' needs through cooperation among residents, local government, and the university (public-private-academic partnership).

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "In addition to the Sports Theme Street, we will do our best to ensure that sports culture permeates throughout Gangdong-gu through various projects for the development of sports culture in cooperation with Korea National Sport University and the local community."
