[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Genesis announced on the 7th that it will launch its first luxury large electric vehicle, the 'G80 Electrified Model.'
The G80 Electrified Model, an electric vehicle derived from the internal combustion engine model, applies a large number of electric vehicle-specific new technologies, including premium convenience features and outstanding power performance, setting a new standard in the electrification market with high product value, Genesis explained.
The G80 Electrified Model is equipped with a high-output, high-efficiency electrification system that extends the single-charge driving range to the level of dedicated electric vehicles, and motors applied to the front and rear wheels deliver a combined maximum output of 272 kW and a combined maximum torque of 71.4 kgf·m. In particular, it is equipped with an 87.2 kWh high-voltage battery that can travel up to 427 km on a single charge, and with a 350 kW ultra-fast charger, it can charge from 10% to 80% of battery capacity within 22 minutes.
Additionally, it features a Disconnector Drive System (DAS) that can separate or connect the motor and drive shaft on the front wheels depending on driving conditions, allowing free switching between two-wheel and four-wheel drive modes, minimizing unnecessary power loss and improving driving efficiency. The combined energy consumption is 4.3 km/kWh based on 19-inch tires, and the zero-to-100 km/h acceleration time is 4.9 seconds.
It is also characterized by braking performance that supports powerful power performance and collision safety specialized for electric vehicles. The G80 Electrified Model is equipped with ▲ Integrated Electric Booster (IEB) ▲ Front Continental Monoblock Calipers (4P) ▲ Large-diameter rear brake discs, and a brake mode that allows customers to adjust the brake feel according to their driving style.
This electrified model increases body rigidity by 17% compared to the G80 internal combustion engine model to safely protect passengers and the battery. It also applies a front structure that disperses energy generated during collisions and a subframe that safely protects passengers. Furthermore, a front-seat center side airbag, which reduces injuries caused by collisions between the driver and front passenger in the event of a side collision, is applied as standard.
Moreover, it is equipped with electric vehicle-specific features such as ▲ 400V·800V multi-fast charging system ▲ V2L (Vehicle to Load) ▲ Solar roof ▲ Smart regeneration system ▲ i-PEDAL mode, providing customers with a new usage experience.
In particular, the Smart Regeneration System 2.0 automatically adjusts the amount of regenerative braking by utilizing front traffic flow, the driver's deceleration pattern, and navigation information to improve energy efficiency, and the i-PEDAL mode, which allows acceleration, deceleration, and stopping using only the accelerator pedal in typical driving situations, enhances driving convenience as electric vehicle-exclusive features.
The front grille features the electric vehicle-exclusive G-Matrix pattern designed for aerodynamic efficiency, embodying Genesis's unique electric vehicle image. The charging port located at the top of the grille does not reveal its boundary when closed, making it appear as part of the grille. On the sides and rear, new 19-inch turbine-shaped exclusive wheels and bumpers designed for aerodynamic performance are arranged respectively.
The exterior colors are offered in a total of 10 types, including the electrified model-exclusive 'Matira Blue,' and the interior is available in four types, including the exclusive two-tone colors Dark Lagoon Green and Glacier White.
The augmented reality navigation system installed in the G80 enhances intuitiveness through the 'Dynamic Wall,' which helps provide accurate directions, and the function that displays destinations and waypoints on the augmented reality screen at their actual locations, while also providing additional information linked with advanced driver assistance systems.
Additionally, it applies 'Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2)' for convenient driving on highways and expressways, a 'Remote Air Purification System' that remotely operates the in-vehicle air purification function before boarding, and a driver's seat 'Ergo Motion Seat' that reduces driver fatigue or assists with stretching.
Genesis offers electrified model-exclusive memberships and specialized services, the integrated brand online shopping mall 'Genesis Boutique,' and the electric vehicle-exclusive membership 'Genesis Electric Vehicle Privilege.' It also newly launched the 'Genesis Card' in collaboration with Hyundai Card.
For customers with private parking spaces, a wall-mounted home charger is provided to support a dedicated charging environment. Genesis's home charger features a reel-type wire connecting the charger body and cable to prevent the charging cable from dragging on the floor, enhancing convenience.
If charger installation is possible at the customer's residence, support is provided for installing a wall-mounted metered outlet, along with a 220V portable slow charging cable and 500,000 charging credits that can be used for charging fee payments. If charger installation is difficult, customers can choose the 'Lifestyle Combined Charging Solution,' which provides 1,500,000 charging credits or 1,000,000 charging credits along with one of hotel memberships, art & culture, lifestyle subscriptions, premium vehicle care such as car wash and coating, or Asiana Airlines membership.
A Genesis official said, "Through the G80 Electrified Model, the brand's first electric vehicle, we will set a new standard for luxury electric vehicles," adding, "We have prepared not only the performance of a premium electrified sedan but also differentiated services such as exclusive memberships to allow customers to experience a new daily life with electric vehicles."
The selling price of the G80 Electrified Model (based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax) is 82.81 million KRW, and the actual purchase price may be lower depending on government and local government subsidies.
