Intensive Crackdown on Illegal Cooking and Garbage Dumping in Forests This July and August
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jeonnam Damyang-gun announced on the 6th that, due to concerns over an increase in illegal activities in forests caused by a surge in visitors during the summer vacation season amid the spread of COVID-19, the county will form a joint task force with 12 eup and myeon offices to conduct special crackdowns on illegal activities in forests until the 31st of next month.
This special crackdown is designed to protect forests by cracking down on illegal activities such as unauthorized alteration of forest terrain, unauthorized occupation and damage during the vacation season, and to foster a sound forest culture by raising awareness through strict law enforcement against forest offenders.
The county plans to focus its crackdown on illegal cooking activities, dumping of waste and garbage, illegal digging and harvesting of forest products, and water play activities at check dams, mainly around camping facilities near mountain valleys. If illegal activities are detected, strict penalties such as fines and legal actions will be imposed in accordance with forest-related laws.
A county official said, “As summer officially begins and visitors are expected to increase mainly around valleys, we will continue promotional activities and crackdowns,” adding, “We ask for active participation and interest from local residents to maintain a pleasant forest environment.”
