Recruitment of 22 Households for Youth Public Housing in Daebang-dong, Dongjak-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is supplying ‘Youth Customized Public Housing’ to support housing stability for single-person households of young adults without homes and is recruiting 22 households for occupancy.

This housing is part of the ‘Demand-Oriented Customized Public Housing’ project, collaboratively promoted by the district and SH Corporation. The district is responsible for proposing housing types and selecting tenants, while SH Corporation handles housing purchase, contract management, and building defects and repairs.

The youth customized public housing supplied this time is located in Daebang-dong, with exclusive areas ranging from 25 to 38㎡. It consists of 16 newly occupied households (Daebang-dong 9-gil 7) and 6 households re-supplied due to vacancies (Yeouidaebang-ro 62-gil 22), totaling 22 households.

Eligible tenants are non-homeowners with monthly average household income below 70% by household size, residing in Seoul or working (or attending) for more than three months at workplaces or public institutions in Dongjak-gu, aged between 19 and 39, or university students located in Seoul.

The lease period is basically 2 years, with a maximum stay of up to 6 years. Rent ranges from a deposit of 10 million to 47 million KRW and monthly rent of 130,000 to 480,000 KRW, approximately 50% of market price depending on area.

Notably, starting this year, one unit will be preferentially supplied to young adults leaving child welfare facilities to support their independence after protection ends. Applicants who fail to receive priority supply will be automatically converted to general supply applicants without separate application.

Applicants wishing to move in can submit the application form and required documents via email to Dongjak-gu Office (publichousing@dongjak.go.kr) from July 12 to 14. After screening, tenants will be selected in October, and move-in will begin in November.

For more details, please check the notices on the Dongjak-gu Office website or contact the Housing Division at ☎820-9347 for guidance.

Meanwhile, the district has been promoting the ‘Dongjak-gu Type Public Housing Project’ since the 6th local government term to realize universal housing welfare by attempting public housing supply at the autonomous district level. Starting with the supply of 26 households at the Single-Parent Safety Housing in Sangdo 3-dong in 2015, a total of 383 households have been supplied to date, including 233 youth households, 79 newlywed households, and 45 senior households, with an additional 252 households secured.

Changwoo Lee, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “A home should be a space where new hope is embraced and dreams can be dreamed. The district will do its best to supply appropriate public housing to all residents who need such spaces.”
