[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The National Police Agency and the Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 4th that they will hold the '7th Science Security Idea Contest' from the 5th of this month to the 27th of next month.

Since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2015 to realize public safety and global science security, the two organizations have held the Science Security Idea Contest annually.

This contest accepts applications divided into ▲Solution Proposals and ▲Problem Suggestions, and duplicate submissions are allowed. In the 'Solution Proposals' category, ideas that can implement science security across all police activities such as crime prevention, cyber and traffic safety, security equipment, forensic science, and counterterrorism are solicited.

In addition, the 'Problem Suggestions' category allows participants to identify and present urgent issues in the security field that need to be resolved to ensure public safety or alleviate inconveniences, even if they cannot directly propose scientific solutions.

The contest is conducted separately for the general public and police officers. Awards will be given only in the 'Solution Proposals' category, with 8 outstanding ideas per category and a total of 16 awarded, including certificates (the grand prize receives awards from the Minister of Science and ICT and the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency) and prize money (the grand prize is 2 million KRW). For the Problem Suggestions category, all proposers who meet certain criteria (at least 100 characters) will receive a mobile beverage coupon.

The proposed ideas will be used as data for establishing science security policies and planning new research and development (R&D) projects. Applications and detailed information can be found on the Science Security Promotion Center website (www.kipot.or.kr).

A National Police Agency official said, "We hope that excellent ideas will be discovered through the Science Security Idea Contest to strengthen security on the ground and contribute to enhancing public safety."
