[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The ‘Lee Jae-myung Camp,’ which combines Yeouido National Assembly members and figures from Seongnam and the Gyeonggi line, is organized in a so-called ‘shadow cabinet (preliminary cabinet)’ format, with each person in charge of their area of expertise. The camp is located in the ‘Myeongdang Building’ near Yeouido, where the headquarters were when the late former President Kim Young-sam was elected. The overall camp is led by Assemblyman Jo Jung-sik (5-term) of the Democratic Party of Korea, who heads the support group ‘Democratic Peace Plaza.’ Assemblyman Jung Sung-ho, classified as the leader of the Lee Jae-myung faction, has decided not to take a position for now to accommodate those who will join after the primary.

Park Hong-geun, a 3-term assemblyman, serves as chief secretary, and Kim Young-jin, a re-elected assemblyman from the Gyeonggi line, is the situation room chief. Strategy is handled by Assemblyman Min Hyung-bae, while Assemblymen Ahn Min-seok and Kim Byung-wook are responsible for professional functions. Policy oversight is managed by Assemblyman Yoon Hu-deok, chairman of the National Assembly’s Planning and Finance Committee and known as the party’s ‘policy expert.’ The spokesperson team includes Assemblymen Park Chan-dae, Park Sung-jun, and Hong Jeong-min. Proportional representation assembly members Choi Hye-young, Lee Soo-jin, and Lee Dong-joo are assigned to the disability, labor, and livelihood sectors, respectively. Founding members of the Lee Jae-myung faction, Assemblymen Lim Jong-sung, Kim Nam-guk, and Lee Kyu-min, are also expected to take on roles soon. On the 29th of last month, the women’s organization supporting Governor Lee, ‘Myeongrang Women’s Era,’ was launched, with former assembly members Yoo Seung-hee, Hong Mi-young, and Assemblyman Lee Soo-jin among its members.

With the lineup somewhat established, the camp’s ‘direct’ communication method also stands out. Governor Lee’s style, which prefers solving problems through collective intelligence and actively uses SNS, is reflected in the camp’s communication approach. The camp has also developed its own application, planning to use it as a channel to gather public opinions. They are also putting effort into media management. The camp has devised a tactic of assigning ‘two media outlets per one camp-affiliated assemblyman.’
