[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Ministry of Unification stated that it is closely monitoring related trends, including the possibility of high-level personnel exchanges between North Korea and China next month in connection with major events such as the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party.

Lee Jong-joo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, said at a regular briefing that "July 1 this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party, and July 11 marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the North Korea-China Friendship and Cooperation Treaty."

Experts are raising the possibility of high-level exchanges between North Korea and China before North Korea-US talks, considering that major events related to North Korea-China relations are concentrated next month. In particular, there is mention of the possibility that Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, may visit China on this occasion.

The spokesperson said, "Among this year's events, new trends have been observed, such as North Korean and Chinese ambassadors contributing articles to each other or diplomatic roundtable discussions being held in China," adding, "Various commemorative events between North Korea and China are being conducted with significant weight on the occasion of major anniversaries."

He added, "In the past, there have been trends of exchanging high-level delegations on special anniversaries, especially on 10th or 20th anniversaries," and said, "The government is also closely monitoring related trends."
