Chu Mi-ae 7.6%·Kim Dong-yeon 5.8%... Surpassing Jeong Se-gyun
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Among the candidates suitable for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, who has formed a 'number one' position, received the highest response. Former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae, who declared her presidential bid on the 23rd, rose to third place, and former Deputy Prime Minister Kim Dong-yeon, mentioned as a presidential candidate, surpassed former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, who is part of the 'Big 3' (Lee Nak-yeon, Lee Jae-myung, Chung Sye-kyun).
According to a public opinion poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 26th to 27th, targeting 1,009 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response), the question "Who do you think is most suitable as the next Democratic Party presidential candidate?" received the highest response for Governor Lee at 34.7%. Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon received 13.8%, and former Minister Chu 7.6%. Following were Representative Park Yong-jin (6.3%), former Deputy Prime Minister Kim (5.8%), and former Prime Minister Chung (5.4%).
With the rise of former Deputy Prime Minister Kim, the support rates of major contenders appear to be reshuffled. In the previous poll conducted in the second week of June, Kim had 3.2%. In just two weeks, he surpassed the 'magical 5%' support rate.
Among Democratic Party supporters, Governor Lee had the highest support at 48.6%, followed by former leader Lee Nak-yeon (22.7%), former Minister Chu (8.6%), former Prime Minister Chung (4.7%), and Representative Park (2.8%).
By age group, Governor Lee showed particularly strong support in their 40s (45.4%) and 50s (42.5%). Conversely, he showed relatively weak support among those in their 20s (26.6%), 60s (12.0%), and 70s (7.4%).
This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 26th to 27th, targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with 1,009 respondents and an overall response rate of 8.5%. The survey method was wireless ARS with 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted with weighting by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting).
