From Application to Approval: One-Stop Service on Website and 'The Gangnam' App, Processing Time Reduced from 5 Days to Immediate or One Day
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) will introduce an online processing system in July, the first of its kind nationwide, allowing users to apply for road occupancy permits and pay fees all at once through the district office website and the ‘The Gangnam’ app.
A road occupancy permit refers to obtaining prior approval from the relevant district office for securing access routes for construction vehicles. Currently, applicants must visit the district office at least twice during the application and permit receipt process.
With this online processing system, applicants can apply via the mobile app without visiting the district office. They can also easily check the progress and results of their application. The system is linked to an online payment system for fee processing. Permits can be received via text message, email, The Gangnam app, or the district office website.
The improved procedure enables faster processing. The processing period, which used to take five days, will be shortened to immediate or one day.
The district planned this project noting that Gangnam’s road occupancy permit processing accounts for about one-fifth of the total in Seoul. Last year, Gangnam processed 3,114 road occupancy permits, several times more than other districts such as Seocho-gu (1,381 cases) and Songpa-gu (975 cases), accounting for 19.6% of Seoul’s total 12,389 cases.
