[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Ahead of the full implementation of the autonomous police system on July 1, the Gangwon-do Autonomous Police Committee is strengthening cooperation with security-related civic organizations to raise the interest of Gangwon residents in the autonomous police and to ensure the early establishment of the system.
According to the provincial autonomous police committee on the 27th, on the 29th, an event titled "Safe Today, Happy Tomorrow, Gangwon Autonomous Police" will be held at the Gangwon Provincial Office, where memorandums of understanding will be signed with the Gangwon Autonomous Crime Prevention Association, the Gangwon branch of the National Model Drivers Association, the Gangwon Green Mothers' Association, and the Gangwon Volunteer Fire Brigade Association (male and female).
Following this, honorary autonomous police certificates and figurines embodying the wishes of the residents will be presented to heads of institutions and civic organizations, and July 1 will be declared as Gangwon Autonomous Police Day annually.
The committee especially decided to produce figurines depicting the rank of police officers wearing police uniforms as patrol officers to symbolize the first step and the strong sense of justice of the Gangwon autonomous police.
Song Seung-cheol, Chairman of the Gangwon-do Autonomous Police Committee, said, "The committee was launched nationwide for the first time last April and has laid the foundation for the smooth establishment of the autonomous police system through pilot operations. From now on, we will transform police administration into security welfare that residents can feel and realize Gangwon Autonomous Police as the final puzzle of local decentralization."
