Why Did Songpa-gu Sponsor 'Health Kits' for 320 Low-Income Veterans?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] As the Month of Patriots and Veterans arrives, Songpa-gu's solid support for veterans draws attention.

Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) delivered 'health kits' to low-income national veterans on the 24th and held the '2021 Meeting between the Mayor and Heads of Veterans Organizations' on the 25th.

First, on the 24th, in observance of the Month of Patriots and Veterans, the district held an event to deliver 'health kits' to 320 low-income veteran seniors in the area.

This event was made possible through a neighborly love practice where Giving Plus, operated by the Milal Welfare Foundation, donated 'health kits (worth approximately 43 million KRW)' containing red ginseng, daily necessities, snacks, and other items with hopeful messages for overcoming COVID-19.

Giving Plus, operated by the social welfare corporation Milal Welfare Foundation, receives new products donated by companies and sells them at reasonable prices, creating a sharing space that helps marginalized neighbors and generates social jobs. They carry out sharing projects to live together with marginalized neighbors and continue sponsorships for vulnerable groups.

Additionally, on the 25th, to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the Korean War, the '2021 Meeting between the Mayor and Heads of Veterans Organizations' was held.

At the meeting, heads of nine veterans organizations operated by Songpa-gu (Disabled Veterans Association, Bereaved Families of War Veterans Association, Widows of War Veterans Association, Meritorious Service Association, Liberation Association, Korean War Veterans Association, Vietnam War Veterans Association, Special Mission Meritorious Service Association, and Agent Orange Veterans Association) attended, listened to the difficulties and suggestions of the veterans organizations who sacrificed for the country and worked for community development, and offered consolation and encouragement.

Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “As we observe the Month of Patriots and Veterans, I hope the culture of remembrance, respect, and honor for the sacrifice and dedication of national veterans will spread. I thank the Milal Welfare Foundation for practicing neighborly love even in the difficult situation caused by COVID-19, and we will continue to pay attention to marginalized neighbors and carry out various support projects.”
