SK Innovation Executives Star in Quirky "Sanhaejinmi Plogging" Music Video to Promote Plastic Waste Campaign


[Asia Economy, Reporter Kim Hyewon] The top executives of SK Innovation's major affiliates made a joint appearance in a music video produced to promote the purpose of the "Sanhaejinmi (Mountain Sea True Beauty) Plogging" campaign, a practical ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiative launched in June to address the issue of plastic waste.


The Sanhaejinmi Plogging music video, released on SK Innovation’s official YouTube channel on June 27, features Kim Jun (President & CEO), Cho Kyungmok (President of SK Energy), Na Kyungsoo (President of SK Global Chemical), Cha Kyutak (President of SK Lubricants), Seo Seokwon (President of SK Trading International), Noh Jaeseok (President of SK IE Technology), Choi Yoonseok (President of SK Incheon Petrochem), and Yoo Jaeyoung (Head of Ulsan CLX), among other executives.


Sanhaejinmi Plogging is a volunteer activity in which members of SK Innovation’s affiliates collect plastic waste in urban areas, mountains, and coastal regions near their business sites in Seoul, Ulsan, Incheon, and other locations. The campaign’s name reflects the commitment to protect the mountains (San) and seas (Hae) from plastic waste and create a truly beautiful (Jinmi) planet.


SK Innovation goes beyond simple environmental protection by collecting the plastic waste picked up by its members and upcycling it into items such as clothing. These upcycled products are then donated to vulnerable groups, including seniors living alone and children with developmental disabilities. In this way, the company creates social value by promoting a virtuous cycle for plastic resources.


In the music video, SK Innovation’s executives participate in Sanhaejinmi Plogging alongside employees, adding a fun element with witty dance moves that match the music and lyrics. Notably, narration by President Kim Jun is interspersed throughout the song, blending with the upbeat music to create an atmosphere that is both lively and sincere.


The music for the video was performed by famous trot singer Noh Jihoon, who rose to fame through a trot competition program. He rewrote and recorded the lyrics of his hit song "Finger Heart" to fit the theme of Sanhaejinmi Plogging. Noh contributed his talents to the project on a voluntary basis, moved by the campaign’s purpose.


Since 2018, SK Innovation has been running the "I Green We Green" campaign, a practical eco-friendly initiative. Following Season 1 (reducing single-use products), Season 2 (zero food waste), and the "PET Bottle Tear-Off" campaign (removing caps and labels from used PET bottles), Sanhaejinmi Plogging marks the beginning of Season 3.


Lim Sugil, Head of SK Innovation’s Value Creation Center, stated, "We produced this music video to demonstrate SK Innovation affiliates’ strong commitment to ESG and to widely promote the Sanhaejinmi program, an eco-friendly campaign that is truly meaningful when everyone participates," adding, "We will continue to rigorously implement ESG management to address environmental issues such as plastic waste."
