[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] A man in his 40s who suspected his wife of having an affair after exchanging text messages with another man cut her hair and injured her by stabbing her with a wooden sword was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
The 15th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Gyu-hoon) announced on the 26th that A (46), who was indicted on charges of special injury, was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year suspension.
Earlier, A was brought to trial on charges of cutting the hair of his wife B (42) and stabbing her chest with a wooden sword at their residence in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, in August 2019.
It was investigated that A committed the crime after secretly checking B’s cellphone, discovering text messages exchanged with another man, and becoming angry. At the time, A grabbed B’s hair and cut about 30 cm of it with kitchen scissors, poured leftover beer on her head, and splashed ice water. He also pushed a wooden sword against B’s forehead and stabbed her strongly below the left side of her chest, causing injury.
The court stated, "The defendant’s actions of cutting the victim’s hair and stabbing her with a wooden sword are of a serious nature," but also explained the sentencing reasoning by considering "that the defendant admitted to crimes other than the injury caused by the wooden sword and that he reached a settlement with the victim."
