[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Germany announced on the 25th that from the 28th (local time), it will begin accepting applications for quarantine exemption certificates issued to those vaccinated against COVID-19 in Germany when visiting immediate family members in Korea.

The eligible individuals are those who have received all recommended doses of COVID-19 vaccines approved by the German government, such as Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Janssen, and for whom 15 days have passed since the day after completing the vaccination.

For example, if applying on the 28th, the second dose of vaccination must have been completed by the 13th. The country where the first dose was administered and the country where the second dose was administered must also be the same.

The quarantine exemption certificates will be issued starting from the 1st of next month, and applicants can pre-register via email (quarantine_ge@mofa.go.kr) or by visiting the embassy in person from 9 a.m. on the 28th.

Pre-registration is only available for those departing between the 1st and 7th of next month, while those departing after the 8th can apply starting from the 1st. The embassy recommends applying at least 1 to 2 weeks before the departure date.

Required documents include a passport, quarantine exemption certificate application form and consent form, vaccination certificate, affidavit of authenticity, family relationship certificate, and proof of residence in Germany. The goal is to issue the quarantine exemption certificate within 2 to 3 business days, and the validity period is one month from the date of issuance.

Starting July 1, Korea will grant quarantine exemption benefits to those who have completed vaccination overseas when entering for important business, academic or public interest purposes, or humanitarian reasons such as visiting immediate family members. The German Embassy explained that for visits related to important business or academic/public interest purposes, quarantine exemption benefits have been granted regardless of vaccination status.
